Our next meeting is Sunday, September 17 and the theme is, you guessed it, Textures! We’ll demo how to make your own texture plates,stamps and texture wheels. After lunch we’ll use all the textures we created in a variety of ways. Bring your favorite texture sheets, stamps and cutters and some scrap clay to play along. Don’t forget show and tell as well.

Sherman Oberson demonstrated some pretty cool ways to make Mokume Gane with alcohol inks at the May meeting. Below are some examples including a candle holder lit by the glow of Sherman’s cell phone flashlight.
Sherman was kind enough to write up his tutorials for two versions of the technique which you may access below:

Join fellow polymer artists and enthusiasts for a day of claying and fun. Bring some clay and basic tools and clay along .
Sherman Oberson will be demoing how to make translucent mokume gane using alcohol inks. If you’d like to follow along bring 2-4 oz. of translucent clay, gold or silver leaf, alcohol inks and a glass form to cover and try this technique yourself.
There is a good chance someone else will demo as well.
Don’t forget your show and tell.
The Philadelphia Guild’s very own Sherman Oberson recently became President of the American Regional Board of the International Polymer Clay Association. Congratulations Sherman! Sherman is also President of our local guild and one of the forces behind Clayathon which had a record 80+ attendees this year. When he is not teaching polymer clay classes at one of the many art centers around Philadelphia, Sherman is busy consulting and designing for Penn State Industries who chose him to help them expand their marketing reach from wood crafts to polymer clay.

Our next meeting is March 19. Martha will show how she makes hollow beads and polymer-covered magnetic clasps and will provide a list of suppliers she uses. Bring magnetic clasps and two part mold making material if you want to try this technique yourself Martha will bring forms if anyone wants to try to make hollow beads.
